Jango collar repair

Not so much an epic fail but something that falls along those lines. Here we have a collar that was damaged from the course of time. And the restoration that follows:

The collar came in two pieces. This collar was cast in tc1630 backed with fiberglass. This was an old style of casting by legendary jango maker “Cruzer”. This method has also been used to make those nice grey boba helmet castings . There is a downside as this resin doesn’t bond weld unless sanded and scuffed to promote adhesion of the fiberglass.

Big chunks were delaminating and I took preventative measures to prevent more peeling. Using a super thin glue and a syringe I was able to bond the pieces back into place.

After this, I fiberglassed the two pieces back together and added some extra glass to the other side in hopes it doesn’t break on that side as well.

Some putty to follow and sanding and complete!

Sadly because the tc 1630 sands at a different rate than the putty, it will not likely be able to be perfectly flat, but this is the best we can hope for.

A little bit of silver leaf rub n buff and she’ll be back to her former glory!

I did this repair for about 7$, wasn’t much too interested in making money off this as it was a joy to do something other than paint and cast day in and day out.
